one problem - there is a tape stretch in the beginning of the first sax solo on you keep a-knockin . i contacted mobile fidelity and they said that the stretch happened during a playback in the late 50 s. i know pitch correction is possible because it was used to success on the time-life rock and roll era release in the late 80 s. mo-fi purposefully left the stretch. i m not sure i agree with this. yes it s keeping it original but how disappointing to here the pitch drop in the middle of such a great song. i guess some people are so uptight that they would sacrifice quality for exactness but i thimk i would prefer pitch correction. so if this will bother you, you might check out some other compilations. i m not sure how they delt with it on other releases. i would also be curious to know if the stretch had occurred by the time they made the original album and if they left it the way it was. if so, i understand mobile fidelity s decision.other than the tape stretch, this is a great cd and the sound is excellent. it s nice to see some care given to some great old recordings that seem to go unnoticed these days. thanx mo-fi!
Only one thing keeping this from 5 stars... - ...a big fat blunder! Everything is just about perfect, two great albums on one great sounding Mobile Fidelity disc, but there s one oversight, the titles listed on the tray card are misprinted. The way it looks is, the Here s Little Richard album only has 11 songs. Oops, WRONG!!! Thus, screwing up the remainder of the running order. Here s what it looks like...HERE S LITTLE RICHARD (1957)1. Tutti Frutti 2. True, Fine Mama 3. Can t Believe You Wanna Leave 4. Ready Teddy 5. Baby 6. Slippin and Slidin 7. Long Tall Sally 8. Miss Ann 9. Oh Why? 10. Rip It Up 11. Jenny JennyLITTLE RICHARD (1958) 12. She s Got It 13. Keep a Knockin 14. By the Light of the Silvery Moon 15. Send Me Some Lovin 16. I ll Never Let You Go 17. Heeby-Jebbies (Heebie Jeebies) 18. All Around the World 19. Good Golly, Miss Molly 20. Baby Face 21. Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey 22. Ooh! My Soul 23. The Girl Can t Help ItThat s a major oversight, a big fat blunder! Lucille I know I m being picky, but when you pay top dollar for something, you want it done right! Come on!, how do you forget about Lucille? This was the song I first heard when Deep Purple performed it on BBC radio back in 1972, and it got me into Little Richard. By the way, their amazing version can be heard on Deep Purple In Concert (1970-1972) and also on the DVD, Deep Purple Live in Concert 72/73.Anyway, no five stars, but the classic five star music sounds good.
